Vestas Completes First V236-15.0 MW Hub Assembly in Taiwan, Delivers Ahead of Schedule

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas said on October 12 that it had completed Taiwan’s first locally assembled hub for its V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbine, delivering the component ahead of schedule for the 495 MW Fengmiao 1 offshore wind project.

The milestone adds to Taiwan’s experience in assembling large offshore wind turbine components as the market moves toward a new generation of higher-capacity machines.

The hub, the central component to which the turbine blades are attached, was assembled in Taichung through collaboration between Vestas’ Taiwan team and global specialists. The work included quality control, testing and safety procedures for key components, the company said.

Vestas describes the V236-15.0 MW as its flagship offshore turbine platform, designed to improve project execution through standardized production and manufacturing at scale.

Purvin Patel, president of Vestas Asia Pacific, said the completion marked an important milestone for the company and demonstrated the Taiwan team’s ability to deliver safely and meet quality standards. The expertise gained would support the industry’s continued development, he said.

Fengmiao 1 is the first project under Taiwan’s third-phase offshore wind development program to reach financial close and begin construction. The hub delivery marks another step in the project’s progress while expanding local assembly experience with the 15 MW turbine platform.

Once Fengmiao 1 is completed, Vestas expects its cumulative offshore wind turbine deliveries in Taiwan to reach approximately 1.7 GW. The company said it would continue combining global technology with local expertise to support offshore wind development and Taiwan’s long-term energy security.
